Posted on Aug 19, 2025
As the 74th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance drew to a close, the RumbleSeat team had an unforgettable time soaking in the elegance, craftsmanship, and history that define this iconic event. Here’s a roundup of the standout moments, from the crowning glory on the 18th fairway to the high-stakes auction block.
Best in Show: Tulipwood Torpedo Steals the Spotlight
Winner: The 1924 Hispano-Suiza H6C Nieuport-Astra Torpedo — affectionately called the “Tulipwood Torpedo” — took home the coveted Best of Show trophy. It was shown by Penny and Lee Anderson Sr. of Naples, Florida.
Unparalleled Craftsmanship: Built with mahogany strips forming an aircraft-inspired body by Nieuport-Astra, the car’s surface is made of 1/8-inch-thick wood strips affixed to ribs with nearly 10,000 aluminum rivets. The entire body weighs just 160 pounds.
Racing Heritage: Commissioned by André Dubonnet — WWI ace and auto racer — the car competed in the 1924 Targa Florio and Coppa Florio races, cementing its legacy as both a piece of art and a machine of competition.
Restoration Excellence: Restored by RM Sotheby’s, this marks their ninth Pebble Beach Best of Show win — setting a new record.
Auction Highlights: Record-Breaking Ferraris
The auctions at Pebble Beach 2025 once again proved that rare automobiles command legendary attention and prices.
-
Total Sales: Gooding Christie’s tallied over $127 million in sales during the week.
-
Top Sale: A 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider Competizione achieved $25.3 million, setting a new record for the auction house.
-
Runner-Up: A 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione Series III reached $8.1 million, also establishing a model record.
These results reaffirm Pebble Beach’s role as both a celebration of design and a marketplace for automotive icons.
