Car museums & collections in China

Established in 2011 as China's only government-led automobile museum, the complex spans roughly 49,000 square metres in Fengtai District. Exhibits trace the invention of the wheel through the development of China's auto industry, including Hongqi state limousines, Shanghai-brand sedans, and early joint-venture models.

A privately owned museum in Huairou District that opened in 2009 and was extensively renovated in 2014, built around the personal collection of Chinese collector Luo Wenyou. Exhibits range from stretched Hongqi state limousines to Chinese minicars, vintage buses, and unusual replica vehicles.

A 31,800-square-metre museum being built inside FAW's original factory grounds in Changchun, converted from a 1953 tool-and-die workshop, and scheduled to open to the public on 14 July 2026. Planned themed halls will display about 150 historic vehicles and over a thousand artifacts tracing FAW's 70-plus year history, including the Hongqi marque.

Opened on 26 March 2025 on the historic site of the former Second Automobile Works in Shiyan, Hubei, this is the first comprehensive automotive-industry museum in central China. Its roughly 21,000-square-metre space displays more than 2,000 artifacts across four galleries tracing Dongfeng's history from truck maker to global automaker.

A private museum in Shuangcheng District, Harbin, established in 2009 and relocated to a new 17,600-square-metre facility in 2019. It holds nearly 200 vehicles, including a replica 1890s steam-powered vehicle, a 1945 ZIS-110B Soviet state limousine, and the only known surviving 1966 Hongqi CA770L station wagon.

Opened in 2017 inside the Mawei Shipbuilding Culture Park in Fuzhou, alongside the China Shipping Heritage Museum, this museum mainly displays Western classic cars such as Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen models. It also functions as an event venue with an on-site restoration workshop.

A private museum in Chengdu founded in 2005 by collector Huang Zongmin and rebuilt into a new purpose-built facility in 2016, it holds one of China's largest private collections of "collection-class" classic cars from more than 70 manufacturers. Exhibits range from restored Hongqi and Shanghai-brand sedans to Western classics and modern supercars.

China's first dedicated automobile museum, opened to the public in January 2007 in Anting, Jiading District. It displays more than 100 classic and vintage automobiles representing roughly 50 domestic and international brands across themed halls covering the history, collection, technology, and future of the automobile.

Located within Sinotruk's factory complex in Jinan, this manufacturer museum displays historic heavy trucks such as the JN150, JN160, JN252, and licensed Steyr 91, alongside modern Sinotruk Howo trucks.

Built by collector Zhang Yonglong and opened around 2016-2017 on the shore of Tianyi Lake south of Tai'an, Shandong, this large private museum displays over 300 vehicles across six themed zones, including classic cars, off-road and military vehicles, and domestic Chinese brands. The complex also includes a race track and stunt-show area.

Founded by collector Gu Haijun and officially opened in October 2017, this was the first classic-car themed museum in Shanxi Province. Beyond passenger cars, its roughly 6,500-square-metre display includes military vehicles, commercial trucks, tractors, and a locomotive, organized around eight historical exhibition sections.

A sister museum to the Taishan Classic Car Museum, assembled by the same collector, Zhang Yonglong, from his personal collection of more than 500 vehicles, which are rotated between his two Shandong museums. It opened around 2017 in Changle County near Weifang.

Founded by Xiamen antique-car collector Chen Yue and opened in 2015, this was the first classic-car museum in South China. Its roughly 8,000-square-metre facility in Xiang'an District displays more than 1,000 items from over 40 car brands alongside interactive automotive-culture exhibits.
